Throughout this course, we’ve discussed feminism and the impact women have or do not have on society. Recently in the news, TIME magazine revealed their Person of the Year. The cover includes the faces of five remarkable women who have come forward in recent events pertaining to their experiences of sexual harassment as well as “the thousands of people across the world who have come forward with their experiences of sexual harassment and assault” (Melissa Chan, TIME 2017). It is evident that there is a woman’s arm on the lower right-hand corner of the cover, which represents “an anonymous young hospital worker from Texas- a sexual harassment victim who fears that disclosing her identity would negatively impact her family” (Melissa Chan, TIME 2017). This type of portrayal is represented as “an act of solidarity, [for those] who are not yet able to come forward and reveal their identities” (Chan, TIME 2017). This heroic movement by women speaking up against those who have harassed them is a positive impact within society as it shows women’s voices can launch an exceptional movement.
